2016 Roagna Barolo Pira

Pira is exposed to the South East, on the side of Serralunga and Perno. It originated from the disintegration of the Rocche. It is a geographical monopoly of the Roagna family since 1989, the year in which it was purchased. It is the vineyard with the greatest extension of ownership: 11 hectares in total, 4.88.30 of which are vineyards in Nebbiolo, with unique soil and microclimate. It is protected in the upper part by the fortresses of Castiglione and in the valley by a forest with a stream that flows from Bussia. It is the perfect habitat for the Roagna viticulture concept, respectful of the life of the soils.
We can divide Pira into 6 micro plots, which differ in the composition of the soil (ranging from the limestone rock of the Roca to the bluish marl) and according to the age of the vines.

The plants for this wine are between 25 and 50 years old. The vines are exclusively of mass origin, with woods obtained by pruning from the old vines of this vineyard.

The grapes are normally harvested in mid-October, at perfect physiological ripeness. The harvest is manual, in small boxes. Before being vinified, the grapes follow 2 further manual selections aimed at checking their perfect integrity.

Fermentation takes place exclusively in wooden vats, thanks to a pied de cuve of indigenous yeasts. It lasts for about ten days. Subsequently, the ancient maceration technique of the submerged cap splint is applied, which lasts for 2 months / 2 and a half months (60 - 75 days).

The wine then matures in a neutral oak barrel for about 5 years.

The fruit is sourced from the best hillside vineyards across Treviso in the Veneto. Grapes are harvested slightly before full maturation to preserve acidity. The base wine is re-fermented in enclosed pressure tanks

Bright pink color with an intense bouquet, fragrant with strong notes of fruit and hints of violet, delicate flavor with an attractive aftertaste of ripe cherries.

The grapes: 50% corvina; 30% rondinella; 10% molinara; 10% merlot from favoured sites in the Classico DOC zone, on the Veronese shore of Lake Garda.

The vinification: the grapes are picked when perfectly ripe; 70% is vinified by the rosé wine method with contact of the skins with the must for about 24 hours and the remainder by the white wine method without skin contact. The separate fermentation ensures an ideal balance between the aromas and flavours extracted from the skins. T

Bardolino Classico is a red wine produced from the traditional (Classico) vineyard area at the heart of the Bardolino DOC in Veneto, north-eastern Italy.

Both of these appellations are based on the red grape varieties also associated with Valpolicella: Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella.

TASTING NOTES

COLOR: Lighter bricky red.

NOSE: Canned sour cherries, hint of spices.

TASTE: Light to medium body, canned sour cherries, still quite good acidity, red currant, medium finish.

Villa Antinori Bianco is a white that comes from the union of several grape varieties in harmony with each other, coming exclusively from the owned vineyards, which maintains the spirit and principles that characterize the production style of the Antinori house.

It is produced with Trebbiano, Malvasia, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and a small part of Riesling Renano, whose harvest takes place entirely by hand in the third decade of August. After a very soft pressing of the grapes, the must is transferred to steel where fermentation starts at a temperature that does not exceed 18 ° C.

The wine then ages in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve its freshness and aromatic composition. It is characterized by a straw yellow color with greenish reflections. The perfume is fine and elegant, with fruity notes of banana and pineapple alternating with hints of white flowers. In the mouth it shows a balanced wine, pleasantly persistent and mineral. Ideal in the company of light fish dishes, it is excellent to combine with steamed vegetables.
