Highland Park Cask Strength, 64.1% – Release No. 3 – 70 cl

Bottled straight from the cask, without adding water to reduce alcohol content, delivers the extraordinary depth, complexity and balance of flavours that’s now the established hallmark of our Cask Strength series. Release No. 3 is no exception. This third release has been created using an expertly balanced combination of three cask content-types – first-fill sherry seasoned American and European oak casks and a smaller quantity of refill casks for balance and depth. Using a higher proportion of Orkney peated malt, our Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, has achieved an intensely smoky character, coming through first on the nose with aromas of smouldering peat and lightly charred oak, balanced by honey-glazed lemons and crushed aniseed.

Pink grapefruit zest, freshly-baked sponge cake and a final gust of heathery peat smoke provide a long and distinctive finish.We’ve been crafting our award-winning whisky at the Highland Park Distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney, since 1798. Nose: aromas of smoky peat, burnt oak, fresher notes of honey-glazed lemons, star anise.

Palate: ripe mango, heather honey, vanilla cream, notes of violet, pink grapefruit.

Finish: long, marked by the smoky taste of heather peat.

Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old (or "Aged 18 Years") is a terrific blended Scotch whisky from the world-famous range, which features a combination of up to 18 different whiskies, including the likes of Cardhu, Glen Elgin, Auchroisk and Blair Athol, among others. Carefully created by master blender Jim Beveridge, this expression packs bags of creamy vanilla, vibrant fruit and runny honey, alongside soft wisps of smoke.  Back in the days of yore and yonder, this was known as Johnnie Walker Platinum Label.

Nose: Honeyed cereals, Cadbury's Fruit and Nut, distant bonfire smoke, clementine and spring blossom.

Palate: Peanut brittle, candied peels, plump sultana, a whisper of floral malt gives it an aromatic mid-palate, before giving way to a whisper of dry, earthy smoke.

Finish: Another wave of honey, with a soft hint of cinnamon spiciness.

Produced with a careful selection of the best Scottish malt and grain whiskies, mainly from the region of Speyside. The only one in its category with an aging of at least 15 years in oak barrels. Tasting Note: Light copper in color with spiey cinnamon and melon aromas. Sweet honeyed cinnamon building in spiciness on the palate.

The Macallan treated this 18 Year Old to not just one, but two cask content-types for its maturation, released as part of the Double Cask series! Oloroso sherry was used to season a combination of both American and European oak casks, with the former imparting vanilla nuances while the latter brings that hallmark Macallan spice. Another fantastic sherried single malt from the Speyside distillery!

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dried fruit, ginger and toffee. Rich orange with hints of clove and nutmeg.

Palate: Rich raisin and sultana with notes of caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus.

Finish: Warm oak spice with ginger, turning to sweet orange.
