Born on one of the most prestigious estates in Speyside, Scotland, Tulchan Gin is a light style London Dry gin. It is more subtle on juniper than many other gins, which allows other Scottish botanicals to come through. The Tulchan Estate is located in East Scotland in the heart of Speyside, an area famous for bringing us some of the world’s best Scotch whiskies. This Victorian hunting lodge has played host to many royal guests, reflecting its reputation as one of the best estates in Great Britain. Surrounded by 22,000 acres of pristine moors, lakes and valleys, the Tulchan Estate captures the essence of Scotland itself, as does the Gin that proudly carries its name. In addition to the traditional botanicals and typical flavor profile that one would expect to experience in a super-premium gin of the ‘London Dry’ content-type, Tulchan Gin elevates itself and celebrates its origins by conveying the character of typical Scottish flora, like sloe berries, and other ‘wild’ botanicals that can be found on the Tulchan estate.

Nose: Juniper, lemon & orange peels, coriander, very faint floral notes.

Taste: Sweet up front with lots of candied citrus peels, followed by resin, cardamom, licorice, & coriander.

Finish: Medium length. Kumquat & lemon curd, still quite sweet.ABV: 45%Country: Scotland

From the Auchentoshan distillery in the Scottish Lowlands comes a triple distilled single malt Scotch whisky aged entirely in first fill American oak casks. A light, bright whisky with plenty of vanilla sweetness at its centre - great as an aperitif dram.

Nose: Oranges and lemons, toffee chunks and milk chocolate. Wafts of grassy air and clotted cream.

Palate: Bounty bars, more citrus peels and peaches. A little bit buttery, with golden barley and oak spice developing on the mid palate.

Finish: Lasting notes of grapefruit and toffee pennies.

Bowmore 12yo has a place in many hearts as Islay's 'medium-peated' malt. A pronounced iodine character with plenty of pepper, the current 12yo bottling is a welcome return to the classic Bowmores of the 1960s and '70s, with the emphasis on tropical fruit and smoke. A deserved runner-up in our Whisky of the Year 2014-15 blind tasting.

ON THE EYE: Warm amber.

BREATHE IN: Subtle lemon and honey, balanced beautifully by Bowmore's trademark peaty smokiness.

SIP: Sweet and delicious heather honey and gentle peat smoke.

SAVOUR: The long, mellow finish.

The 'original' sets a high standard for Highland whisky, and has gone from strength to strength since its slightly controversial packaging redesign a few years ago. Medium-bodied and gently warming, with pleasant spicy notes.

NOSE: Soft, clean and refreshing: lemon sherbert and apricots, with honeyed fruit and a touch of toffee and vanilla. Gentle and satisfying.

PALATE: A little weightier on the palate, with honey and malt, banana bread and subtle sweet spices. Clean and well balanced.

FINISH: The honeyed fruit fades softly, and the finish is whistle-clean.

COMMENT: A textbook whisky, this – well made, beautifully balanced, delicate but still flavour some.

15 year old single malt from the Glen Moray distillery, released as part of the Elgin Heritage range - which is all about showing off the accessible deliciousness of its Speyside whisky. This was drawn from a selection of American oak and Sherry casks.

Tasting Note:

Nose: Sweet as it opens with white chocolate and caramel. A hint of charred oak smokiness develops.

Palate: Crumbly fudge with a few sea salt flakes, shortly joined by banana fritters and chocolate raisins.

Finish: Cinnamon and ground ginger.
