Tulchan Speyside Gin – 70 cl

Born on one of the most prestigious estates in Speyside, Scotland, Tulchan Gin is a light style London Dry gin. It is more subtle on juniper than many other gins, which allows other Scottish botanicals to come through. The Tulchan Estate is located in East Scotland in the heart of Speyside, an area famous for bringing us some of the world's best Scotch whiskies. This Victorian hunting lodge has played host to many royal guests, reflecting its reputation as one of the best estates in Great Britain. Surrounded by 22,000 acres of pristine moors, lakes and valleys, the Tulchan Estate captures the essence of Scotland itself, as does the Gin that proudly carries its name. In addition to the traditional botanicals and typical flavor profile that one would expect to experience in a super-premium gin of the 'London Dry' content-type, Tulchan Gin elevates itself and celebrates its origins by conveying the character of typical Scottish flora, like sloe berries, and other 'wild' botanicals that can be found on the Tulchan estate.

Nose: Juniper, lemon & orange peels, coriander, very faint floral notes. 

Taste: Sweet up front with lots of candied citrus peels, followed by resin, cardamom, licorice, & coriander. 

Finish: Medium length. Kumquat & lemon curd, still quite sweet.ABV: 45%Country: Scotland 

The standard release of Highland Queen blended Scotch whisky, named after Mary Queen of Scots. Like much of the range, it offers very good value for money.

Nose: Some dark honey, caramel, allspice, cooked apples and pear drops.

Palate: Crisp apples now, nougat, more honey, subtle vanilla, perhaps even some tarragon.

Finish: Clean and quite short.

Naked Malt is crafted from 100% malt whisky from some of the worlds most renowned single malt distilleries, married and double-matured in first-fill Sherry-seasoned oak casks. The whisky is rich with buttery and bright nutty aromas, a smooth mouthfeel and soft flavors of fresh grain pastry, warm vanilla and creamed coffee.

Named the Best Blended Malt Whisky at the 2018 Ultimate Spirits Challenge and honored with a Double Gold medal at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition., 

Tasting Note

Nose: Smooth and oily with notes of cherry compote, buttered granary toast, malt, custard and peach.

Palate: Sherried and thick with notes of sultanas, sticky toffee pudding, raspberry jam, Victoria sponge, custard and crème caramel.

Finish: Medium, with notes of cocoa, oak and just a soupcon of smoke on the very tail.

Monkey Shoulder is a blend of Speyside single malt Scotch whiskies which are married together for flavor and consistency. The richness and vibrancy combine with fruity aromas and mellow vanilla, making it perfect for mixed drinks and cocktails.

Monkey Shoulder casks are former bourbon casks, which add smooth vanilla flavors to this Scotch. It also has no grain whisky whatsoever anywhere in or even near the drink. It's barley all the way, folks. The name Monkey Shoulder might sound funny, but it has a history in whisky making. The maltmen who used to turn the barley would take long shifts, using their dominant arm significantly while working. At the end, their shoulders would droop on one side, an ailment that became known as "Monkey Shoulder." Today, nobody working at Monkey Shoulder actually has the affliction, though the barley still gets turned by hand. Working conditions are much better than they used to be. The name sounds cool and harkens back to the old whisky making days. Monkey Shoulder tastes delicious neat, with a splash of water, and on the rocks. It stands out in mixed drinks, too, given its orange and vanilla flavors with a bit of spice.

The 'original' sets a high standard for Highland whisky, and has gone from strength to strength since its slightly controversial packaging redesign a few years ago. Medium-bodied and gently warming, with pleasant spicy notes.

NOSE: Soft, clean and refreshing: lemon sherbert and apricots, with honeyed fruit and a touch of toffee and vanilla. Gentle and satisfying.

PALATE: A little weightier on the palate, with honey and malt, banana bread and subtle sweet spices. Clean and well balanced.

FINISH: The honeyed fruit fades softly, and the finish is whistle-clean.

COMMENT: A textbook whisky, this – well made, beautifully balanced, delicate but still flavour some.
