A new range launched in Spring 2020, the Cask Collection illustrates the creativity of the West Cork distillery. Produced in small batches, these Single Malts made from 100% Irish malted barley are triple distilled and then aged in first-fill bourbon casks. Each is then matured in a spirits or fortified wine cask for several months and therefore has a unique character and a 100% natural colour. For each Single Malt, the House from which the casks originate is specified in the greatest transparency on the label. For this Sherry Cask Finished, the influence of the Bodega Baron Sherry casks is very clear, with a spicy Single Malt enhanced with notes of dried and candied fruits.

 

NOSE

The sherry finish results in aromas of dried prunes and fig with sweet candy and vanilla notes.

PALATE

Sweet at the beginning switching to a dry finish with some spice and pepper present.

FINISH

A short to medium dry finish, initially sweet but ending with black pepper and spice.

A new range launched in Spring 2020, the Cask Collection illustrates the creativity of the West Cork distillery. Produced in small batches, these Single Malts made from 100% Irish malted barley are triple distilled and then aged in first-fill bourbon casks. Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old (or "Aged 18 Years") is a terrific blended Scotch whisky from the world-famous range, which features a combination of up to 18 different whiskies, including the likes of Cardhu, Glen Elgin, Auchroisk and Blair Athol, among others. Carefully created by master blender Jim Beveridge, this expression packs bags of creamy vanilla, vibrant fruit and runny honey, alongside soft wisps of smoke.  Back in the days of yore and yonder, this was known as Johnnie Walker Platinum Label.

Nose: Honeyed cereals, Cadbury's Fruit and Nut, distant bonfire smoke, clementine and spring blossom.

Palate: Peanut brittle, candied peels, plump sultana, a whisper of floral malt gives it an aromatic mid-palate, before giving way to a whisper of dry, earthy smoke.

Finish: Another wave of honey, with a soft hint of cinnamon spiciness.

The Macallan treated this 18 Year Old to not just one, but two cask content-types for its maturation, released as part of the Double Cask series! Oloroso sherry was used to season a combination of both American and European oak casks, with the former imparting vanilla nuances while the latter brings that hallmark Macallan spice. Another fantastic sherried single malt from the Speyside distillery!

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dried fruit, ginger and toffee. Rich orange with hints of clove and nutmeg.

Palate: Rich raisin and sultana with notes of caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus.

Finish: Warm oak spice with ginger, turning to sweet orange.

Country: Highland, Scotland ABV: 43%
