Los Danzantes Espadín Mezcal (sold under the name Los Nahuales in the United States due to trademark laws) is a highly respected, artisanal mezcal produced in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, Mexico. Crafted by master distiller Karina Abad Rojas, this 100% Espadín agave spirit is deeply rooted in traditional Mexican production techniques but features unique quirks like playing classical music during fermentation to assist the yeast.
Production Details
  • Agave Variety: 100% Estate-grown Espadín (Agave angustifolia Haw).
  • Cooking Method: Underground conical stone pits heated with mesquite oak wood.
  • Crushing Method: A traditional, horse-drawn stone tahona wheel.
  • Fermentation: Slow, natural fermentation with wild yeasts in open-top pine vats.
  • Distillation: Double-distilled in small copper pot stills.
  • Alcohol by Volume (ABV): Typically bottled at a robust 47% ABV.

A 100% agave añejo tequila from Tierra de Agaves. Lunazul is part-owned by bourbon-producer Heaven Hill.
