The 2019 Château Montlabert is a highly regarded savory and classic red Bordeaux blend from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation in France. This specific vintage represents a major milestone for the estate, as it was the very first vintage produced using their completely renovated, state-of-the-art gravity-flow cellar. The rigorous quality standards applied during this period directly contributed to the estate being officially promoted to Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé status in 2022.
 
Profile & Technical Specifications
  • Composition: A blend of 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc.
  • Alcohol Content: Typically 14% ABV.
  • Terroir: Located near prestigious neighbors like Château Figeac, featuring sandy soils layered over blue clay and asteriated limestone.
  • Winemaking: Crafted under the guidance of renowned wine consultant Hubert de Boüard (of Château Angélus). The grapes were vinified in 16 plot-specific, temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks, then aged in oak barrels for 14 months. 

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: Complex bouquet featuring smoky cassis, plums, dried meat, iron, and a distinct touch of chili chocolate.
  • Palate: Medium-bodied structure with firm, dusty tannins and prominent blue fruit notes.
  • Finish: Lengthy, silky, and caressing, demonstrating a great balance of power and freshness.

  • Food Pairings: Pairs exceptionally well with hearty, classic dishes like beef, venison, and roasted game meats.
  • Serving Advice: It benefits from decanting for roughly 1 hour before serving to let the tannins soften and the complex aromas open up fully.
