Content

12 year old single malt from the Glenrothes distillery, released as part of the Soleo Collection. This range takes its name from the process of sun-drying grapes in Jerez for sherry production, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that sherried deliciousness is a focus here. Also noteworthy is the lack of vintage on the label, with Glenrothes decides to eschew them in favour of age statements for the majority of the series.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Gingerbread, stewed apple and earthy vanilla, then soft tropical fruit notes and a hint of sherried funk.

Palate: Creamy hazelnut, dried fruit and a hint of cinnamon. Hints of chocolate, old leather, dried herbs and tobacco add depth among Galia melon and honeyed oak.

Finish: Long and sweet with a touch of baking spice and more stewed fruits.

Overall: A perfect introduction to all things that make Glenrothes fantastic.

Nose: Some dark honey, caramel, allspice, cooked apples and pear drops.

Palate: Crisp apples now, nougat, more honey, subtle vanilla, perhaps even some tarragon.

The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old is a well-balanced single malt whisky made by combining the ideal harmony of two oak casks into a single superb whisky. Sherry-seasoned American wood adds faint vanilla to the modest spice of European oak, resulting in a whisky with a sweeter, warmer flavour and character.Within one superb single malt whisky, two unique oaks produce the perfect equilibrium of flavours. The Double Cask whiskies are aged in two different content-types of oak, in hand-crafted casks that have been seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry. Vanilla, citrus, and butterscotch flavours are imparted by American oak.

The Macallan's unmistakable delicate spice comes from European oak. These two superb whiskies combine after 15 years to create a distinct single malt with a sweeter, warmer flavour and character.

Tasting Notes: On the nose, butterscotch and plump raisin, with spiced apple crumble and oak spice.

On the palate, dried fruits galore, with a dusting of cinnamon, candied ginger and orange peel. More warming ginger alongside a drizzle of honey and buttery caramel on the finish.
