To get the distinct flavor of Jim Beam Bourbon, the distillery ages the liquor in charred oak barrels for a minimum of four years. This imparts a medium body and a caramel color that you’ve come to know in a bourbon. The oaky, vanilla and spicy backdrop greets you with a swirling of the bourbon, inviting you to taste what lies within the glass. When you finally raise the glass, your taste buds become overwhelmed with a five-pronged attack of sweetness, grain, oak, char and fruit. The Macallan treated this 18 Year Old to not just one, but two cask content-types for its maturation, released as part of the Double Cask series! Oloroso sherry was used to season a combination of both American and European oak casks, with the former imparting vanilla nuances while the latter brings that hallmark Macallan spice. Another fantastic sherried single malt from the Speyside distillery!

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dried fruit, ginger and toffee. Rich orange with hints of clove and nutmeg.

Palate: Rich raisin and sultana with notes of caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus.

Finish: Warm oak spice with ginger, turning to sweet orange.

Country: Highland, Scotland ABV: 43%

Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old (or "Aged 18 Years") is a terrific blended Scotch whisky from the world-famous range, which features a combination of up to 18 different whiskies, including the likes of Cardhu, Glen Elgin, Auchroisk and Blair Athol, among others. Carefully created by master blender Jim Beveridge, this expression packs bags of creamy vanilla, vibrant fruit and runny honey, alongside soft wisps of smoke. Back in the days of yore and yonder, this was known as Johnnie Walker Platinum Label.

Nose: Honeyed cereals, Cadbury's Fruit and Nut, distant bonfire smoke, clementine and spring blossom.

Palate: Peanut brittle, candied peels, plump sultana, a whisper of floral malt gives it an aromatic mid-palate, before giving way to a whisper of dry, earthy smoke.

Finish: Another wave of honey, with a soft hint of cinnamon spiciness.

The initial aroma is strong with citrus and a hint of whiskey. The palate again reveals lots of orange character, and a moderate amount of honey. Has a rich, bourbon finish that plays on the tongue and ends with a final touch of honey.
