Teeling Single Malt whiskey – 70 cl

A great single malt that is drawn from various ages of whisky from a single undisclosed Irish distillery. The oldest malt in this dates back to 1991 and the various components have been matured in different content-types of barrels including Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon. Possibly our favourite new whiskey of 2014. At this price it represents great value for money. Never mind that there is not an age statement, this is as good, if not better than most 12 year old single malts.

Note: Initially very fruity, with waves of tropical fruits, ripe apples, melons, and oranges then some touches of milk chocolate, spice and old engine oil

The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old is a well-balanced single malt whisky made by combining the ideal harmony of two oak casks into a single superb whisky. Sherry-seasoned American wood adds faint vanilla to the modest spice of European oak, resulting in a whisky with a sweeter, warmer flavour and character.Within one superb single malt whisky, two unique oaks produce the perfect equilibrium of flavours. The Double Cask whiskies are aged in two different content-types of oak, in hand-crafted casks that have been seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry. Vanilla, citrus, and butterscotch flavours are imparted by American oak.

The Macallan's unmistakable delicate spice comes from European oak. These two superb whiskies combine after 15 years to create a distinct single malt with a sweeter, warmer flavour and character.

Tasting Notes: On the nose, butterscotch and plump raisin, with spiced apple crumble and oak spice.

On the palate, dried fruits galore, with a dusting of cinnamon, candied ginger and orange peel. More warming ginger alongside a drizzle of honey and buttery caramel on the finish.

Nose: Honey and heather with thick caramel notes and a subtle nutmeg spice. Dried meadow flowers and a hint of fresh banana.

Palate: Smooth and succulent with a honeyed sweetness that's typical of Johnnie Walker. There's more to this though, the floral elements are quite prominent and there's a spiced sweet vanilla note too.

Finish: Long, sweet and toffee-like.

Overall: A typically easy drinking blend from Johnnie Walker, this will not disappoint fans of the style.
