THE VINTAGE
Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Cailles” from Bouchard Père et Fils is aged in barrels for 10 to 18 months, with a high proportion of new barrels. The bouquet is marked by the fruit of pinot noir, with subtle woody and spicy notes.
BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS ESTATE (ESTATE) Founded in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père et Fils has throughout its history built up one of the most beautiful vineyards in Burgundy, by buying vines from the best terroirs. In 1811, the corporate name “Bouchard Père et Fils” was made official; throughout the 19th century, takeovers continued and during the 20th century, the Bouchards concentrated on exploiting their estate rather than expanding it. From 1969, the selective purchasing policy resumed. In 1995, the Bouchard family passed the torch to another historic family, this time from Champagne: the Maison de Champagne Henriot. The new team took charge of the destiny of the vineyard and completely regenerated the house, even in the style of the wines. Since then, its rating has continued to climb and it is one of the best Burgundy merchants; some of its wines have even succeeded in establishing themselves as the greatest in its entire history. The entire vineyard is led by Thomas Seiter, who became the new general manager in 2018. The vineyard has 130 hectares (and as much area for purchasing grapes) including 12 hectares of Grands Crus and 74 hectares of Premiers crus. With nearly 50 hectares spread over 23 climats, Bouchard Père & Fils has been the largest owner in Beaune Premier Cru for several generations.
