Luxardo Fernet Amaro is a bold, intensely bitter Italian digestif that has been produced using the same recipe since 1889. While Luxardo is most famous for its Maraschino cherries and liqueur, its Fernet is a respected, though often underrated, entry in the category. 

Tasting Notes

Compared to the more common Fernet-Branca, Luxardo’s version is often described as drier, more woodsy, and less syrupy.

• Aroma: Dominant notes of gentian root and licorice, with hints of anise, eucalyptus, and exotic baking spices.
• Palate: Intensely mentholated and minty at first, followed by a sharp, "medicinal" bitterness.
• Finish: A long-lasting, drying finish of saffron and myrrh.
• Key Ingredients: A blend of 15 botanicals, including cardamom, cinnamon, saffron, condurango, and cinchona.

• Neat or On the Rocks: Traditionally served after a meal (digestivo) in a small 1–1.5 oz pour to aid digestion.
• In Cocktails:
  • Hanky Panky: Mix 45ml Gin, 45ml Sweet Vermouth, and 10ml Luxardo Fernet; stir and garnish with orange zest.
  • Fernet con Coca: A common Argentine pairing that uses the spirit's savory profile to balance the sweetness of cola.
  • Martinez Variation: Use it alongside Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin and Maraschino Liqueur for a complex, herbal twist.
