Made from its own special recipe, ANGOSTURA® orange bitters is a complex blend of tropical oranges and spices. “The soul of an exceptional dry martini”; it is wonderfully versatile and pairs perfectly with vodka, gin and whisky. It also adds a depth of flavour to rum cocktails. Its complexity and layers of flavour also make it a culinary must-have ingredient. A perfect accompaniment to savoury sauces, seafood and chocolate.

Angostura Aromatic Bitters History

It owes its invention to the MD, Johann Siegert, native of Germany, who left his homeland in 1820, attracted by the scent of adventure. He went to Venezuela to join the Simon Bolivar Liberation Army, the founder of the State of Bolivia, in its fight against the Spanish throne. Dr. Siegert was treating soldiers with fever and severe intestinal problems.

After four years of research and analysis on the virtues of tropical plants, in 1824 he developed his 'bitters' to stimulate appetite and digestion of the suffering soldiers. After the wars, Angostura bitters reputation spread to the United States and Britain due to the strong maritime activity in the Caribbean. Thus started the worldwide reputation of the product, now recognized as an essential ingredient in achieving many cocktails.

Made with the finest roasted arabica coffee beans, these exceptional bitters will give a hit of Columbia's finest to your cocktail creations! Like the rest of the extensive Bitter Bastards range, only specially selected spirit and natural bittering agent (gentian root) are added, with rapid-maceration and centrifugal extraction techniques used to preserve those intense coffee flavours.
